As part of the March Mini Madness at write.click.scrapbook, I made and shared a mini album using Karla Dudley's The Good Stuff and The Good Stuff Add-Ons at Pixels and Company. For my mini album, I wanted to capture 10 things about my son while he's 10 years old. I wasn't sure if I wanted to bind the pages together for an album, or if I wanted to add the pages to my Project Life album. I decided to design the pages at 3" x 4" (really 2.88" x 4" in the Project Life brand pocket pages) so that I could create one album and print it twice to create both options! I used a similar format for each page to provide cohesion to the album and to allow for quick assembly. I repeated the same background paper, used a single photo and paper strip, and then added washi tape, flair buttons and word strips to embellish each.
One of the great things about digital word art and filler cards is that they can be used to easily and inexpensively create customized wall art and change things up. I was searching for something for my main bathroom, with its lovely 1970's mustard yellow tile. I recently painted the walls gray to go with the yellow, and wanted something to tie them together. Enter, my scrapbook supplies! I printed these word art cards at home and layered with other paper. While I used a white background to photograph them, they are now hanging on my gray wall in the bathroom, and I love them!
It's March Mini Madness month at write.click.scrapbook! The gallery is FULL of examples of different kinds of mini albums for the Mini Madness IV gallery. I created this mini album for my son to take with us on trips. He really misses our dog Copper when we're gone and she can't come along! Looking at pictures of her makes him happy.
I love making hybrid calendars - make one, print many! They are great gifts and easy to have at home, work, wherever! I designed this year's to be 3x4 so I could slip it into my Project Life album once the year's over.
Sketches or templates aren't just for layouts - they make a great starting point for pocket cards too! Here's a few that I made using the October 2013 sketch at write.click.scrapbook. For more ideas on using sketches for different-sized projects, check out my Day 5 post on getting more from your sketches/templates.
I used a digital template to design the card layout, placing the sentiment in the photo spot instead! Why not stretch your digital templates a bit farther and try using them for cards as well as layouts?!
Happy early [inter] National Scrapbooking Day (iNSD)! I always love the buzz of activity (and sales) associated with this special day dedicated to our great hobby. Although iNSD is officially May 5th, Design House Digital is starting the House Party early with a blog hop, sales, a free collab kit, a layout challenge, and more, all week long! I’ve got so much share and tell you about, so this will be a long post – but stick with me to the end because it’s worth it!!
If you hopped to my blog from Deena Rutter’s blog, welcome! (Don’t you just love her designs?!) If not, you’ll want to start from the beginning of the hop for all the details.

Tip of the Day
I’ve been having a lot of fun this year documenting our everyday happenings through Project Life (by Becky Higgins). [Although I’m a bit behind in posting my completed weeks] This year, I’ve been incorporating digital/hybrid elements into my album. There’s a lot of wonderful digital product available geared toward Project Life, and by using digital supplies I can customize my own title cards and journaling cards.
The other new thing I’ve been including this year is iPhone photos. Their lower resolution images look great printed at 3x4; OR, have a little fun editing with filters through the various apps like Instagram, Hipstamatic, etc. While these apps give you some artistic play time, they can pose a challenge for including in Project Life because of their square shape.
I’ve found two ways to incorporate these square photos: 1. place on the 3x4 journaling cards at a smaller size, and 2. place on a 4x6 card, with plenty of room for the photo (at 3.5 x 3.5 or less) and some notes about the day.
I encourage you to give it a try – it adds some variety to your pages by customizing your inserts with digital products and by incorporating smaller square photos. Even if you don’t process the photos with a smartphone app, you can still incorporate a square photo on your cards.
Freebie
To help you with the above ideas, I made a few 4x6 and 3x4 cards using the Retrospect collab freebie. Download here.
The 4x6 cards (.png) have openings for instagram or phone photos – just slip the photo behind the opening & it’s ready for use on your layout or for printing. The 3x4 cards can be used for journaling or adding a photo. All of these cards work great with Project Life, or any scrapbooking project! I’d love to see how you use them – link me up in the comments if you do!

To be entered into the drawing, you need to complete a layout meeting all 26 of the challenges, which can only be found along this hop, by Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 11:59 pm MST (that’s 12:59 am for my Central peeps). Welcome to your 5th stop in the Design House Digital Mad March Memories Blog Hop. (Wow, that was a mouthful.) Thanks so much for stopping by!
This year, I’ve jumped into Project Life* (again) and have being doing it hybrid-style! A little bit of digi mixed in with some traditional stash. One of the things I’ve been loving is customizing my own journaling cards using digital supplies and then printing them to add to my page protectors. I’ve been using some of the great papers and word art from the designers at Design House Digital. Here’s a few examples of the printable sheets I’ve made:
These use a base card by Robyn Meierotto and word art by Karla Dudley. For other journaling cards, I’ve clipped different fun papers to the base card for some variety, as well as changed the color of the word art.
To help get you started, I’ve created some simple word art with outline and a template/clipping mask to clip digital paper or photos. Or, hide the clipping mask layer and print on white cardstock or your own patterned paper. Click on the image above to download the file.
Here’s an example of a completed card (using Cool Kid Papers by Robyn Meierotto). I would love to see what you do with the card!
Be sure to check out the other happenings at DHD for Mad March Memories – you can find more info at the Design House Digital blog. The DHD Decorators and Designers have a lot of fun things in store for you today, so be sure to check it all out! And speaking of fun things, I’ve got a $5 gift certificate to the Design House Digital Shop to give away! For a chance to win, do one or all of the following by midnight (Mountain time) on Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Give away ended.

Week 3! We started out the week by celebrating Copper’s birthday (she’s 3) and I ended the week with lots of cropping!
Left side:
The boy made Copper a birthday cake out of peanut butter, dog food and dog treats. Of course she loved it! She also was cracking me up sleeping with her tongue sticking out. She really likes to lay on top of my chair (often with me in it) and either look out the window or sleep.
Right side:
Lots of reading, playing with legos and the new checkers/chess game and SCRAPBOOKING!! I had my monthly Friday night crop w/ friends and went to a fundraiser crop all day Saturday. Gotta love it!
I’m loving how things are coming together and using the mix of digi and traditional supplies.

One more week to post to be all caught up! Thanks for stopping by!
Week 2! Again, not great light for photographing with page protectors. I’m loving mixing hybrid cards and elements with leftover bits from paper projects.
I love adding some digital word art to digital graph paper for custom journal cards.
Left side:
Right side:
The big event of the week was the snow day! The boy went sledding in Dad’s kayak. He also made a snow volcano. Friday the 13th brought some lucky fortunes with Chinese food for dinner. My fortune was to remember three months from this date. Hmm… we’ll see!

I’ve been keeping up with Project Life so far, just got behind on my sharing of the pages. So, here’s week one!
I still need practice at taking photos of page protectors (sorry for the poor quality – I took these at night).
Left side:
The boy worked on a dinosaur excavation kit he got for Christmas. Very patient work. We also got a brand-spankin’ new hot water heater (boo! – unexpected!).
Right side:
The boy’s weird plants, reading to Copper, visiting the Capitol and decorating for Homecoming.
I pretty much did a daily documentation this week, with either a photo or journaling (or both) for each day. Some weeks I’ll cover each day, some will be more of an overview or concentrate on the major events of the week.

Last year (2011) I jumped into Project Life, with the goal of taking a photo a day. I did a pretty good job of keeping up with the photos, but not so much with completing the pages and certainly not with posting them here. But this Leap Year, my approach will be a little different and, I think, have a better chance of success!
My plan is to complete each week’s spread on Sundays (and hopefully post here on Tuesdays). I’ll be concentrating on the week as a whole vs a photo each day. I think that will take a lot of pressure off.
Last year I used the Turquoise Edition of Project Life, and love, love the designs. This year, I’m going to use bits and pieces left from that and some other projects, particularly my travel journal. My journal was 6x8, so I conveniently have a bunch of strips that are 4x12 – perfect for 4x6 title cards and 3x4 journal cards. I’m also mixing in some great digital products from Robyn Meierotto, Karla Dudley and other Design House Digital Designers, along with some Ali Edwards digital brushes.
Here’s a peek at my cover page. I’m thrilled to pieces with it, although this photo of it isn’t so great. The photos I used weren’t necessarily showcase-quality images, but they tell the story. I plan to embrace imperfection in this album and focus on capturing the stories rather than the perfectly lit shot.

Hoping to get “caught up” on this long weekend and to do some major scrap supply purging.
So I’m a bit late posting these, but I wanted to share a few hybrid projects I made for Halloween – all using Carina Gardner’s The Raven collection at JessicaSprague.com. Love this line (and LOVE Halloween)! For me, Halloween kicks off the holiday season with a bang, and then it’s just a blur from there as we zip through to, well, Valentine’s Day!
If you want step-by-step instructions on how I made these (and the credits for supplies used), check out the most recent newsletter from Carina Gardner. These projects can easily be converted into other holiday themes, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, just by switching out the themed paper while still following the basic design. Hmmm…that sounds like a challenge! Maybe I’ll try it out. I’d love to see any of your creations inspired by these projects – just link me up in the comments!
I dabbled and made my first Artist Trading Card (ATC). ATCs are 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. miniature works of art. Creating this hybrid ATC was a fun way to play around with my digital and traditional goodies, no pressure of showcasing my photos or telling stories, just play.

Published in the May issue of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine.
This card inspired my blog header, and the saying fits me very well. ;)
I’m not sure if I’ll be doing many ATCs, but it’s something that would be fun to play with now and again.
A sweet hybrid LO to share. If only both of them were still that little!

I printed the background with all the papers, journaling and brackets on one sheet. I wanted to have glossy photos, so I printed them separately on photo paper (but sized them in PSE first by adding them to the digital LO and then printing them as a separate file). I inked the edges of the photos to make the stand out against the lighter background paper. I then added some dog-themed rubons and chipboard, along with rickrack, felt ribbon and title chipboard stickers.
