10 Faves @10

As part of the March Mini Madness at write.click.scrapbook, I made and shared a mini album using Karla Dudley's  The Good Stuff and The Good Stuff Add-Ons at Pixels and Company.

For my mini album, I wanted to capture 10 things about my son while he's 10 years old. I wasn't sure if I wanted to bind the pages together for an album, or if I wanted to add the pages to my Project Life album. I decided to design the pages at  3" x 4" (really 2.88" x 4" in the Project Life brand pocket pages) so that I could create one album and print it twice to create both options!

I used a similar format for each page to provide cohesion to the album and to allow for quick assembly. I repeated the same background paper, used a single photo and paper strip, and then added washi tape, flair buttons and word strips to embellish each.

Disney Vacation

My overview layout of our recent Disney vacation with photos of us at each of the park icons. I LOVE Scotty Girl Design's This Year 2014 line - I can already tell that I'll be using it a LOT! It also matches very well with her Disney-ish kits, to mix and match!

Morning Commute & Enjoy Today

Sketches or templates aren't just for layouts - they make a great starting point for pocket cards too! Here's a few that I made using the October 2013 sketch at write.click.scrapbook. For more ideas on using sketches for different-sized projects, check out my Day 5 post on getting more from your sketches/templates.

InterNational Scrapbooking Day blog hop!

Welcome and happy iNSD (early)!! We’re continuing the Pixels and Company iNSD fun today with a CT blog hop! Be sure to check out all the fun at P&Co, including the AWESOME free kit (with coupon code) More or Less.

The P&Co CT used the More or Less kit to create some amazing journal cards just for YOU!

To get these cards for FREE, visit this link and use the coupon code. Just hop to each CT member on the list collecting a letter/number from each one along the way to spell out the full coupon code. Easy peasy.

While you’re at the P&Co shop, be sure to take advantage of the fabulous iNSD sale and pick up some great kits. Here are four of my favorite kits and ones that I know I’ll use again and again:

ctbloghop_faves

Loved Chevies Papers by Creashens – These papers are perfect for just about every layout, as a background, for layering or for simple accent strips. I love the wide range of colors (especially the gray) and the slightly distressed texture.

The Life Unscripted Elements by The Ardent Sparrow – This kit is so versatile! I love all the arrows and other brushes, the labels, the frame, banners, buttons, pretty much everything! And how cute is that bicycle?!

Life 365: Stamp Sheet by Karla Dudley – Another great all-purpose kit! Karla’s brush sets are always top-notch, and this kit is no exception. The totally rad moustache is such a fun addition!

Cool Change Washi Tape by Mye de Leon – Yes, I’m a bit obsessed with washi tape right now, both digital and physical. I love Mye’s set because of the variety of patterns and colors, with my favorite being the gray chevron (but loving that orange chevron too).

These kits all would be perfect additions to your Project Life albums too!

Here’s a few of my layouts using these kits (along with others). I’d love it if you link me up any layouts you’ve created with these kits!

LOL

Yes, I used the gray chevron as the background for both. Did I mention I’m a little obsessed with gray chevrons right now? I’m even trying to find a new gray chevron bedspread/comforter for my bedroom. :) (Link me up if you’ve seen any nice ones!)

To see more of my layouts, visit my Gallery or follow me on Pinterest!

Now…what you’ve been waiting for!

Mad March Memories Blog Hop!

MMMBanner1
Welcome to your 5th stop in the Design House Digital Mad March Memories Blog Hop. (Wow, that was a mouthful.)  Thanks so much for stopping by!
This year, I’ve jumped into Project Life* (again) and have being doing it hybrid-style! A little bit of digi mixed in with some traditional stash. One of the things I’ve been loving is customizing my own journaling cards using digital supplies and then printing them to add to my page protectors. I’ve been using some of the great papers and word art from the designers at Design House Digital. Here’s a few examples of the printable sheets I’ve made:
Blog-journalcards4
These use a base card by Robyn Meierotto and word art by Karla Dudley. For other journaling cards, I’ve clipped different fun papers to the base card for some variety, as well as changed the color of the word art.
QuoteCard-carey-bridges
To help get you started, I’ve created some simple word art with outline and a template/clipping mask to clip digital paper or photos. Or, hide the clipping mask layer and print on white cardstock or your own patterned paper. Click on the image above to download the file.
QuoteCardEx-carey-bridges
Here’s an example of a completed card (using Cool Kid Papers by Robyn Meierotto). I would love to see what you do with the card!
Be sure to check out the other happenings at DHD for Mad March Memories – you can find more info at the Design House Digital blog. The DHD Decorators and Designers have a lot of fun things in store for you today, so be sure to check it all out!
And speaking of fun things, I’ve got a $5 gift certificate to the Design House Digital Shop to give away! For a chance to win, do one or all of the following by midnight (Mountain time) on Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Give away ended.

  1. Leave a comment in this post.
  2. Create a layout or other project using my freebie, post it in the DHD gallery and link me up in the comments below.
  3. Follow my blog using the widget in the sidebar.
I’ll be back Friday with the winner!
This post was brought to you by the letter “D.”
(Your next stop for the hop is Celeste Knight. To start the hop from the beginning, go to this post on the DHD blog.)
Happy Hopping!

Project Life | Week Three | Jan. 15-21

Week 3! We started out the week by celebrating Copper’s birthday (she’s 3) and I ended the week with lots of cropping!

PLWeek3

Left side:

PLWeek3L

The boy made Copper a birthday cake out of peanut butter, dog food and dog treats. Of course she loved it! She also was cracking me up sleeping with her tongue sticking out. She really likes to lay on top of my chair (often with me in it) and either look out the window or sleep.

Right side:

PLWeek3R

Lots of reading, playing with legos and the new checkers/chess game and SCRAPBOOKING!! I had my monthly Friday night crop w/ friends and went to a fundraiser crop all day Saturday. Gotta love it!

I’m loving how things are coming together and using the mix of digi and traditional supplies.

One more week to post to be all caught up! Thanks for stopping by!

Project Life | Week Two | Jan. 8-14

Week 2! Again, not great light for photographing with page protectors. I’m loving mixing hybrid cards and elements with leftover bits from paper projects.

PLWeek2

I love adding some digital word art to digital graph paper for custom journal cards.

Left side:

PLWeek2L

Right side:

PLWeek2R

The big event of the week was the snow day! The boy went sledding in Dad’s kayak. He also made a snow volcano. Friday the 13th brought some lucky fortunes with Chinese food for dinner. My fortune was to remember three months from this date. Hmm… we’ll see!

Project Life 2012 | Week One | Jan. 1-7

I’ve been keeping up with Project Life so far, just got behind on my sharing of the pages. So, here’s week one!

PLWeek1

I still need practice at taking photos of page protectors (sorry for the poor quality – I took these at night).

Left side:

PLWeek1L

The boy worked on a dinosaur excavation kit he got for Christmas. Very patient work. We also got a brand-spankin’ new hot water heater (boo! – unexpected!).

Right side:

PLWeek1R

The boy’s weird plants, reading to Copper, visiting the Capitol and decorating for Homecoming.

I pretty much did a daily documentation this week, with either a photo or journaling (or both) for each day. Some weeks I’ll cover each day, some will be more of an overview or concentrate on the major events of the week.

Leaping into Project Life 2012

Last year (2011) I jumped into Project Life, with the goal of taking a photo a day. I did a pretty good job of keeping up with the photos, but not so much with completing the pages and certainly not with posting them here. But this Leap Year, my approach will be a little different and, I think, have a better chance of success!

My plan is to complete each week’s spread on Sundays (and hopefully post here on Tuesdays). I’ll be concentrating on the week as a whole vs a photo each day. I think that will take a lot of pressure off.

Last year I used the Turquoise Edition of Project Life, and love, love the designs. This year, I’m going to use bits and pieces left from that and some other projects, particularly my travel journal. My journal was 6x8, so I conveniently have a bunch of strips that are 4x12 – perfect for 4x6 title cards and 3x4 journal cards. I’m also mixing in some great digital products from Robyn Meierotto, Karla Dudley and other Design House Digital Designers, along with some Ali Edwards digital brushes.

Here’s a peek at my cover page. I’m thrilled to pieces with it, although this photo of it isn’t so great. The photos I used weren’t necessarily showcase-quality images, but they tell the story. I plan to embrace imperfection in this album and focus on capturing the stories rather than the perfectly lit shot.

Hoping to get “caught up” on this long weekend and to do some major scrap supply purging.

Happy Scrapping!

Seriously?

Yes, a post! So, the last time I posted it was all snowy and winter. Who knew we’d have seven inches of snow on March 14th! It was certainly a shocker to wake up to all the snow, including for the weathermen!

Anyway, I’m trying to get back in the habit of sharing some layouts on the blog. Yes, eventually I hope to also post my Project 365 pages too. This year I’ve decided to use Becky Higgins’ Project Life. So far it’s working for me, although I need to keep up on the printing of my photos.

Here’s a few of my digi layouts that appeared in Scrapbook News and Review Magazine. Click on the images for credits.

Serious Project 365 Catching Up

I have been trying to keep up with Project 365. Well, at least on the photo taking part of it. I am woefully behind on the scrapping part, but I haven’t given up yet! I am even further behind on posting the completed LOs, lol. My goal is to make some major headway before the rush of Christmas. :)
